Physical Therapy : The
physical therapist is an integral part of your rehabilitation team,
providing a wide variety of therapeutic services to you on a daily
basis.
You will be assigned to a team consisting of a physical therapist and a
physical therapy assistant who will oversee your program and progress.
Your physical therapist will evaluate your muscle strength, range of
motion, sensory motor function, balance and walking ability. This
comprehensive evaluation will determine what physical therapy services
are appropriate for you. Services may include an ambulation (walking)
class, tilt table, progressive resistive exercises in our well-equipped
gym, active assistive exercises or physical agent modalities such as
moist heat, cold packs, ultrasound, TENS (transcutaneous electrical
nerve stimulation), FES (functional electrical stimulation), or
paraffin.
In your ambulation class, your therapist will work with you
to improve your
ability to walk with an appropriate assistive device on
a variety of surfaces as well as to safely negotiate stairs. If you
require the services of an orthotist/prosthetist to fabricate and fit
you with a brace or an artificial limb, you will be seen in our Brace
Clinic where the orthotist/prosthetist, along with a physiatrist and a
senior physical therapist will evaluate your needs. Your physical
therapist will provide appropriate ambulation training to help you
achieve safe mobility within your home and community.
