Occupational Therapy : Every
patient in PMR receives occupational
therapy services on a daily
basis. The role of the occupational therapist is to
thoroughly assess how your
illness or injury has affected your ability to perform all the
activities you need to accomplish every day, and then design a
treatment program that will enable you to regain your
independence.
He/she will assess your physical abilities such as your balance,
endurance, strength and flexibility as well as other important skills
that can affect your ability to function safely and independently such
as vision, perception, attention and memory. Your occupational
therapist will also evaluate how you perform a wide variety of
activities of daily living such as walking and sitting down on a chair,
sofa, or toilet, getting into and out of a tub, shower or car, as well
as dressing, grooming and feeding yourself.
In our fully equipped
therapy kitchen you will have an opportunity to relearn any meal
preparation and household management tasks that will be required of you
when you return home. With both independence and safety our
primary concerns, your occupational therapist will work closely with
you and your family to help ensure that your home environment is safe
and that you have any special equipment or devices that you may require
to function safely and independently in your home and community.
